Orbit Health

Orbit Health wanted a habit tracker that behaved like a coach rather than a scoreboard — something that noticed a broken streak and responded with a smaller next step instead of a red mark.

The challenge

Early prototypes were technically sound and emotionally punishing. Testers described the streak counter as stressful, and 60% of them stopped opening the app within ten days of a missed day.

The approach

  1. 01

Reframed the core loop around recovery: after a missed day the app proposes a reduced target rather than resetting progress.

  2. 02

Built one shared React Native codebase with platform-native motion, haptics, and notification behaviour.

  3. 03

Designed a weekly insight card that reads as a sentence, not a dashboard, so it survives a five-second glance.

  4. 04

Instrumented the beta with opt-in analytics and a two-tap in-app feedback path.

The outcome

The recovery loop shipped in the second beta and became the most-cited reason testers kept the app installed. Retention at week four settled at 72%, and the average beta rating reached 4.8.
